Gary Carter, Class of '03

In 2000, Tony Perez became the first player who wore an Expos uniform to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. However in 2003, while the Spos were on life support Gary Carter was inducted into the HOF. In 1974, Carter played in nine games (four in the OF) and wore #57. By 1975 he was an all-star and Rookie of the Year runner-up. Carter became synonymous with #8 which was eventually retired by Montreal but now resides in number limbo. Carter smashed 15 hits in ten Expos playoff games in strike shortened 1981. He played with the Expos until 1984 when he led the N.L. in RBI with 106. He was lauded as the missing link to the New York Metropolitans pennant hopes when he was traded for Hubie Brooks, Mike Fitzgerald, Herm Winningham and Dwight Gooden’s childhood friend Floyd Youmans. After winning the World Series with the infamous ’86 Mets, The Kid returned for an Expos swan song in 1992. Carter bopped five homers finishing with 324 in his career.
